Gemstones have been an attraction for mankind since ancient times. To mount gemstones in pieces of adornment has always been our way of showing our affection for a particular gem. Because good quality gemstones are rare, they can be artificially enhanced to increase the value of the stone. Heat treatment and irradiation are common words when referring to treating gems. We refer to gems that have not been treated as natural.
